Our Story
Bliss Cookie Jar started as a lighthearted joke between me, my husband Christiano, and our daughter Amaya. We were stressing about how expensive life had become and laughed about how pretty soon we’d have to take drastic measures just to make ends meet! I joked that we should sell cookies like they were illegal and that’s when our tagline, “Cookies This Good Should Be Illegal,” was born.
But the roots of this business run deeper than a funny conversation. I grew up in a tough neighborhood on the westside of Detroit, where baking and the creative arts were my escapes. As a kid, I would take whatever ingredients we had from Focus Hope (a government assistance program) and turn them into cookies and brownies. When I was about 8 years old, I set up shop on our front porch, selling my homemade treats to anyone passing by—hardworking neighbors as well as people just trying to make it, like drug dealers and prostitutes. Those early days taught me the power of creativity, resourcefulness, and most importantly, the strength of community.
Bliss Cookie Jar is more than just a business to us. It’s a celebration of resilience and an homage to my roots and childhood. I’m proof that even the simplest beginnings can grow into something extraordinary. Every cookie we sell carries a little piece of that story—and a lot of love.
